Questions about rules in Adultsize

Hi all,
Here are some questions about AdultSize Competition Rules:

  1. About Kick-off procedure
    Line 1430,
“ The referee gives the signal #READY# that all robots have to reach their own half of the field. After a period between 15 and 30 seconds the referee gives the signal #SET#. The referee calls robots illegally positioned to be removed with exception of the goal keeper and a striker for the team having kick-off that may be placed manually by the respective robot handler. The robot playing the goal keeper has to be announced before the beginning of the game.
The striker can be chosen after the end of the #READY# phase among all robots of the team (even those being called for illegal positioning). A manually placed goal keeper has to be within the team’s own goal area touching the goal line. A manually positioned striker can take any legal position within the team’s own half. Removed players are placed on the touch line of the respective team’s
side, facing the opposite touch line, to enter the field from there upon the #PLAY# signal. ”

In Adultsize, each team only has one field player, so do robot need to reach its own half of the field by itself, or let robot handler move robot to get into the field and reach position? What will happen after signal “ready” in adultsize match? How about signal “set”?

  1. About free kick procedure
There are some differences between rules(Line 1465) and Game Controller. In Game Controller, there are “Prepare Direct Free Kick” , “Freeze Direct Free Kick” and “Execute Free Kick”. What should robot do after each signal? Does opponent robot have to move to a position at least 50cm away from the ball by itself or moved by robot handler?

3)About extra time and extended kicks from the penalty mark
Line 1395 says we have four procedures(regular time, extra time, kicks from the penalty mark and extended kicks from the penalty mark) to determine the winner of the match. But in Game Controller there are only two procedures(regular time and penalty ) for knockout match. So we only have regular time and penalty kick in knockout match?

4)How do incapable player or player that suffering a time penalty go out of the field and re-enter the field? By itself or moved by robot handler?

5)About timeout
Can we call for a timeout during the play? Or we only can use timeout to extend the stoppage of play?

6)About Request for Pick-up
What if a robot handler touches a robot with the allowance of the referee?

7)About Goal Kick from Moving Ball
When is robot allowed to move? What is the procedure of this challenge? What is the size and color of the slope?

In Adultsize, each team only has one field player, so do robot need to reach its own half of the field by itself, or let robot handler move robot to get into the field and reach position? What will happen after signal “ready” in adultsize match? How about signal “set”?

My interpretation of the rule is that in AdultSize both robots are field players. So the robot that has kick-off does not need to enter autonomously, but the other one has to - otherwise it will start from the touch line.

“Prepare Direct Free Kick” , “Freeze Direct Free Kick” and “Execute Free Kick”. What should robot do after each signal? Does opponent robot have to move to a position at least 50cm away from the ball by itself or moved by robot handler?

As it says in the rule, after the first signal from the GameController the robots are supposed to wait for the ball to be re-positioned if necessary. After the second signal, the robots prepare their free kick by moving away autonomously at least 50cm, unless they are awarded the free kick. After the “Execute” command, the game continues and the robot executing the free kick can touch the ball, while the others have to wait for this to happen or have to wait at least 10 seconds before the ball is considered to being back in game. I’m not completely sure which state is which in the GameController, I’ll check that and get back to you.

But in Game Controller there are only two procedures(regular time and penalty ) for knockout match. So we only have regular time and penalty kick in knockout match?

No, it is as said in the rules. The extra time is optional and depends on the abilities of the robot and how far the ball has been moved within the games. Extended kicks from penalty mark are as regular penalty kicks in the GameController, so it would just be the continuation after the five regular penalty kicks.

How do incapable player or player that suffering a time penalty go out of the field and re-enter the field? By itself or moved by robot handler?

They are taken out by the robot handlers after the referee asked them to do so. They have to re-enter the field autonomously from the touch line within their own half of the field at the height of the penalty mark on the side that the referee announces.

Can we call for a timeout during the play? Or we only can use timeout to extend the stoppage of play?

You can ask for a timeout any time, but it’s only effective once a stop of game occurs.

What if a robot handler touches a robot with the allowance of the referee?

The robot gets a 30 second penalty and has to enter back from the side of the field. If another team member except of the robot handler touches the robot within the 30 seconds, the penalty becomes 60 seconds for service.
Please note that a request for pick-up should only be called if the robot is in a dangerous situation is likely leads to immediate severe damage to itself. It is not just a way to inspect the robot or take it to rest for a little while.

When is robot allowed to move? What is the procedure of this challenge? What is the size and color of the slope?

There is no restriction of when the robot is allowed to move. For the procedure, please refer to the rule book. The size and color of the slope is not specified and depends on what the local organizers can provide. The slope will be available for inspection during the setup days for training.

Thanks for your reply.

I still have a question about penalty kick:
In regular time, when a team is awarded a penalty kick, should their robot walk to the penalty mark autonomously and execute the penalty kick? Or robot handler can position the robot in any place in front of the penalty mark? When a penalty kick is awarded to the opponent team, should the goal keeper walk to the goal line autonomously? Or robot handler can position the robot in any place on the goal line?

How about penalty kick in knockout match after regular time and extra time?

No, as written in the rules, the penalty kick within a game is currently replaced by a slightly modified free-kick. It follows the same procedure, but the goal keeper may remain within the goal even if that is within the 50cm radius around the ball.

For the deciding penalty kicks in knock-out matches, the robots can still be placed manually at the position 1.5 * robot height from the penalty mark as indicated by the referee. This has not changed with the new rule book.
