Communication with the robot

  1. Line 405 bans all communications with the robots that are not verbal commands from the robot handler. This clearly also bans pressing any buttons at all on the robot, which clearly can’t be intended because how else are the robots meant to be started and stopped? It would be good to clarify this in the rules so that it is not left up to interpretation. We propose allowing only at most two buttons to be used in a game, for example one to start/stop the robot and one to relax the robot joints e.g. if the robot might hurt itself otherwise.
  • What is the intention behind line 395 being crossed out: “Any other computers of team members are only allowed to communicate by tethered LAN.”?
  1. Agreed. My proposal is to change the line:

Any other type of communication with the robot, excluding verbal communication of the robot handler, has to be announced to the referee so a service penalty can be given to the respective robot.

So it is saying:

Any other type of communication with the robot, excluding verbal communication of the robot handler and pressing a button to start or stop the robot’s general behavior, has to be announced to the referee so a service penalty can be given to the respective robot.

  1. Good question, that was my mistake. This line will not be crossed out in the final version.
  1. That sounds like a decent proposal to change line 405.
  • Good to know also.
